Catching the tide for Gweek

£ 575.00

Painted on Arches Huile paper, with a deep yellow ground, protected with a clear wax coat, mounted on board and framed with a St Ives moat frame in white wood which measures 8cm.

Another take on the high tide journey up the Helford River. Gweek has a thriving, friendly village with a classic boatyard and sits at the head of the river. For deep keel boats it's only accessible at spring high tides when you can navigate up through a narrow passage, maybe occasionally sticking in the soft mud beneath. I love the light in this painting, the solitary boat almost disappears into the glare of the setting winter sun. I often use Naples Yellow next to white to capture that glow, it works well here with the muted tones of the layers in the sky and water.
